Coaching Styles of Coaches
Abstract
Different coaching styles were implemented to enhance the athletic performance of student-athletes in team sports. The study focused on determining the extent of the coaching styles of coaches in a Private University, in a highly urbanized City, in Negros Occidental for the School Year 2023 to 2024. The data needed for this descriptive survey research design were collected from 149 student-athletes using a self-made questionnaire validated and tested for reliability. The findings revealed the great extent of democratic, authoritarian, vision, and holistic coaching with the highest overall mean, implying that the coaches use these coaching styles confidently. The study also revealed a significant difference in the extent of coaching styles of coaches when grouped according to sex in terms of democratic coaching, emphasizing male coaches' perception of democratic coaching as a way to balance firmness and inclusiveness. This study calls for a comprehensive development program for coaches that emphasizes the importance of adopting diverse coaching styles tailored to the needs of student-athletes, gender-sensitive training to further explore and address the dynamics of coaching styles among male and female coaches, and feedback mechanisms from student-athletes for ensuring the effectiveness of implemented coaching strategies.
