EXTENT OF IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CURFEW ORDINANCE AS PERCEIVED BY THE RESIDENTS OF BARANGAY 38 AND BARANGAY VILLAMONTE, BACOLOD CITY

Abstract

Curfew is a policy that mandates people, it is strictly enforced for youngsters to control their behaviour, avoid potential accidents and help them become law-abiding citizens. Weak Implementation of curfew ordinances leads to waste of resources and budget allocated as it was not able to achieve its main objective. Moreover, the researchers aimed to assess the extent of implementation of the curfew ordinance as perceived by the residents in the areas of accident precaution, crime and juvenile delinquency prevention and taking the responses collectively and separately regarding their age, sex and highest educational attainment. Likewise, it aims to determine if there was a significant disparity in the respondents' perception when grouped and compared based on their profile variables. The study utilized a quantitative research method with descriptive research design that is conducted among 200 respondents from Barangay 38 and Barangay Villamonte through convenience sampling method.

The results showed that the extent of implementation of the curfew ordinance on the aforementioned Barangays was generally high regardless of the profile variables and areas, which implies that the implementation of these curfew ordinances on the above mentioned Barangays is not affected by the respondent’s profile and the external factors.

Thus, it is recommended that the curfew ordinance should be introduced not only to minors but as well to the parents or guardians for them to have a full grasp of the policies covered with the ordinance and for them to be fully aware with its penalties and responsibilities when it comes to prevention of crime and precautions to any potential accidents that might happen.
